  • Hey Doug! How about Looney Tunes' Birth of a Notion? In that cartoon there is the best and most scariest parody of Peter Lorre, also Daffy tries to kill someone by stabbing him in the dark. Peter Lorre's creepy, wheezing laugh still haunts me in my dreams, also one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

  • I watched this every year with the Halloween episode "Scaredy Pants"; as a kid, the neglect of Gary was a pure 'holy fuck!' moment, & I felt more freaked, but not SCARED, by SpongeBob's transformation. But it certainly a freaky episode with the element of animal cruelty. As an adult, it may not sway you in an expected way, but, hey, it's classic SpongeBob. I still do film reviews on Instagram, #DaltonsReviews, & alongside "The Witches" (1990), SpongeBob's "I Was a Teenage Gary" is 1 of the few reviews I beat the NC to 1st. Not to mention, I reviewed this & "Scaredy Pants" on the last day of September last year to kickstart my 1-month special "The 30 Days of Halloween", followed by "Monster House" the 1st, the next day.

  • Fun fact: a few years ago many older fans of the show told that they remember a scene of Squidward turning into a snail which played right before the final scene back when the episode first came out, but was later deleted for every future rerun because many kids found it disturbing. However if I’m not mistaken some user (90sGiveMeGoosebumps), who recorded the episode on VHS back in 1999, uploaded the recording to UZworld and the scene never played. So I guess everyone just experienced the Mandela effect...

  • To be honest the only thing that scared me in the episode when I was a kid was when Spongebob was peaking through Squidward’s window. I don’t know why, probably because of the angle they drew Spongebob from and his voice. But other than that... I wasn’t that scared. I always thought the transformation looked really cool and the jokes were funny, so...

  • I have pretty delicious suggestion. Moomin cartoon from the 90's episode 6 is one of the most scary things we saw as kids. When the Groke appears the first time. Or episodes 24 / 25 where the whole moomin family sails to an island where they try to fix the lighthouse. But they come see a ghost ship. And the ghost in episode 25 were as scary af. If not scarier than the Groke. And only weeing just 2 legs and rest of the ghost were invisible. But that tension and soundworld / expressions made it so fucking dense. Those episodes scared the living shit out of many kids back then xD

The two episode that scared me more when squidward goes into a time machine to be alone and the other one where spongebob misses his bus stop and goes a "dark" town with people using their tongue after every word.

  • Doug, check out 'Hair-Raising Hare' (1946) to review. It can fairly be said to be a Bugs Bunny classic, with a mad scientist patterned after Peter Lorre, a shaggy orange monster in sneakers, a sexy rabbit robot to lure Bugs to the castle, and plenty of one-liners from our carrot-chomping hero.
