His nephews have gone WAY too far this time, resulting in one of the meanest stunts in any Donald Duck cartoon. So Naturally, Doug loves it.

    • I still vote for Mickey's Garden from 1935, please. :) At first I was a little surprised to find this in the Dark Toons series, considering that most of it is light and funny, but the more I think about it, it really does belong here, because that scene where the nephews trick Donald into believing he died, it's hands down the most memorable part of the short! It's actually pretty touching to see how much Donald lets that "reality" sink in that he's passed away. The scene doesn't last for very long, but as a lot of scenes are with Disney, a little bit can go a long way. :) I can feel so bad for him as he plays his harp and reviews his life, he's just so sad thinking he's separated from his family forever in the afterlife, and yeah, that moonlight like a light from Heaven and lighting up the trees. Ever since I was young and watched this cartoon, I felt torn; on one hand, I imagined how I'd feel if I were in Donald's shoes, being incredibly sad that I'm dead and leaving so much unresolved and having to leave my family so suddenly; but on the other hand, I'd think I'm going to Heaven, and soon all my earthly troubles would be forgotten, that "heavenly" light looks so inviting...but then again, would I feel like I'd be ready to go, considering my family? It's a lot to take in, and it can make me forget anything else that happened in the cartoon, because this scene is so heavy. I almost wished it lasted a little longer so we could take in the sad and beautiful moment, but of course, it's a cartoon, we gotta get back to the reality that the nephews played this *horrible* trick on him, and their asses are grass! LOL Then when he turns into a devil and chases them out into the forest again, it almost reminded me of the short "Trick or Treat" because then it looks all spooky with the yellow moon and stuff, like it took a Halloween turn. XD One of my favorites with Donald and the nephews, what little shits they are! :P

  • There's a Donald Duck cartoon from WWII called "That Soldier Game" (I might that wrong) where he sneaks out of barracks after dark and when Pete his sergeant is chasing him around he thinks he's sawed off his bottom half when in fact he's in a hole. Both Donald and Pete think he's gravely injured so Donald points a gun at his head contemplating ending his life either because he's going to die or because he's crippled. Donald has a crazed look on his face when he's pointing the gun at his head. It is only when he leaves the hole to go some place to shoot himself he realizes that he's not cut in half.

  • Isn’t a family of Ducks eating a Turkey Dinner a sort of cannibalism? Modern Donald cartoons, the boys are rather mischievous and don’t really try to upset Donald, unless he does something to them first. Old cartoons, they were rotten little bastards who openly Hated Donald, which made me wonder why in the hell Donald would willingly watch over such little shits who despise, bully and belittle him just because they can.

  • I actually saw this cartoon this year - my mother finally got the last two Chronological Donalds in the Disney Treasure series and we watched this. We weren’t shocked by it initially, but with a lot of these it takes a bit for the fucked up-ness to set in. But if you want one that always disturbed me as a child, gotta go with The Nifty Nineties (just for the drunk father sequence alone).

  • Found it! The Hypo-Chondri-Cat, a 1950 Warner Brother's Loony Tune from the creative directing mind of Chuck Jones. It has a similar plot to this in that the last part of the cartoon is designed to convince one of the characters that he is dead when he really is not, only it feels a bit darker then even this one from Disney. Definitely worth looking into for this series.

  • The name of the cartoon is “Play Safe”. It’s about this little kid that plays on the train tracks, gets knocked out and enters this dream world where he plays around with this sentient train that nearly kills him. His pet dog saves him by getting him off the tracks in time before an ACTUAL train runs him over. There’s a lot of dark and creative imagery in the whole dream sequence, especially in the designs of the trains, the mountains, and the stalagmites in the caves. If this cartoon’s been requested already or if you already know about this cartoon, either way, just glad I get the word out. As a fan and lover of the art of animation, keep up with the series!🤘🤘🤘
