The original comedy is certainly corny, but Doug insists it's well worth your time. Let's take a look at That Darn Cat! on a new DisneyCember.

I freaking LOVED this movie. Dean Jones was so good and so funny... The Love Bug movies, Blackbeard's Ghost, The Shaggy D.A... he absolutely killed every time he was on screen!
This movie is INDEED a gem! As children of the 80s, my Brother and I watched That Darn Cat with our Mom almost every time it aired on the Disney Channel! I can appreciate Doug’s critiques, but I honestly wouldn’t change a thing... except for the fact that the remake- which, like most of Disney’s reboots, I didn’t give the time of day- exists! Sorry. That goes against my “People can watch what they want, even if I think it’s shit!” philosophy. If you liked the remake, more power to you. But the *original D.C.* was well trained, engaging and wasn’t trying to flee from Hayley Mills’ arms every second he was onscreen!
Ironically while others didn't know the remake was a remake, I didn't even know a remake of this existed! As a kid...I saw THIS. NOT the remake (I know that because I crack up at the driver thru scene where DC blocks the screen EVERY TIME.) THIS was the film that made me realize not all cats were monsters (Trust me...I had a lot of run ins with my Grandma's cat. So imagine my shock when the second cat I met, a decade later, ended up LOVING me and I him...)
Hey Critic was one of the robbers The Riddler? & I’m surprised you didn’t have Chaplin say something
🎄
Meow.
I saw this movie as a child... at the drive-in (nostalgia!) and have loved it ever since. Haven't seen the remake. Hailey Mills and Dean Jones are irreplaceable :) There are a bunch of Disney live-action family films from the 60s & 70s I'm hoping to share with my grandchildren-- Swiss Family Robinson was a favorite! Great content & analysis of a childhood favorite-- subscribed!
I’ve always loved this movie. Along with the Cat from Outerspace and the Richest Cat in the World.
You should do the cat from outerspace.
I wish he had the same opinion of the original Parent Trap as he did with the original That Darn Cat! The original Parent Trap was a masterpiece.
I remember this movie for only one reason. When I was a child at daycare, my babysitter wanted to rent Cat’s Eye with Drew Barrymore. Instead she accidentally rented this movie.
The Ugly Dachshund is another forgotten Disney pets movie from the 60s
you should watch The Cat From Outer Space (1978)
The scene at the drive-in theater will always stand out in terms of all the silliness - DC swatting at a moth in front of the projector (and the shadow being cast over the film, pissing everyone else off), the running around and people crashing into each other (snacks going flying), the detective claiming he's a health inspector (the guy running the drive through asking "Health inspector? Where's your badge?" followed by being angrily honked at), oh man, so much silliness.
3:56 - Pleakly: HERE!!!! EDUCATE YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVED watching this movie on the Disney Channel when I was a kid. 😊
Acting 101
Did they edit the cat’s eyes in post, is it trained in facial acting, or is it accidentally an amazing actor?
Those Cat eyes look right into my soul!
I really need to watch this.
U should. It’s on Disney +
What’s he saying at 0:34?
a favorite film in my family, my sisters and I always quote to each other "I spent ALL DAY in a duck blind, in the POURING RAIN."
I sadly watched this film once because the vhs was damaged and could just barely get it to play fully. Liked it as a kid though. Definitely need to rewatch. One thing about the older films is the amount of fun characters and writing. Something I miss with the current movies and overly crowded amount of remakes. Looking back I'm noticing that I recognize more of the actors. Primarily due to such Disney films around the time period. Ed Wynn as the Madd Hatter, not to mention roles in Mary Poppin and The Absent Minded Professor. Elsa Lanchester as Bride of Frankenstein. I was familar with Dean Jones from The Love Bug series and The Shaggy D.A. (sequel to the Shaggy Dog). The two robbers are known for their villain roles. Frank Gorshin for Riddler in the live action series Batman, and I recognize Neville Brand for his various roles in Western films. A good amount of these actors have appeared in The Twilight Zone.
love this movie
want a Samuel Jackson version if this title
Like if some you only know the original and didn't know about the remake
Yeah this movie is such a jem. Hate the remake.
That neighbour is The Bride Of Frankenstein!
I have this on DVD!
This was the one I grew up with on VHS, didn't even know there was a remake.
One of my sister’s favorite movies of all time. She has simple tastes. Thank you for reviewing it.
I need to watch this
Dean Jones was "Mr. Disney" at one point. 1965 -- That Darn Cat 1966 -- The Ugly Dachshund 1967 -- Monkeys, Go Home 1968 -- Blackbeard's Ghost 1968 -- The Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit 1968 -- The Love Bug 1971 -- The Million Dollar Duck 1972 -- Snowball Express 1976 -- The Shaggy D.A. 1977 -- Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo Disney found a great actor. His facial expressions were almost as "cartoon-like" as Jim Carrey, and his "every man" looks made him a great lead actor. I hope you eventually review some of these other films next year.
Yay!! A positive review to my favourite movie!
Take some Fuck-It-All and review The Cat From Outer Space. Please.
My second cotton candy movie, aside from Xanadu. :D
This was one of my favourite movies as a kid. I must have seen it over a dozen times.
Anything with Frank Gorshin is usually worth a watch. Huge talented actor.
How Dare You Not Mention Loyd!
Had this on VHS as a kid. Hayley Mills is so adorable in it.
Played this today for my kids. My wife never saw it. They could not stop laughing. Its a real gem.
I saw the title and automatically thought of the NC episode with Chaplin and Lloyd
Is the one crook the 60s Batman's Riddler?
i grew up on this movie and it's a instant classic to me
I love this movie one of my favorite live action Disney movies
Hey Doug, can you please see if you can get around to making a full review on The Secret of Nimh? I'd just really like to see you make a 40 or so minute review, really being able to go into your thoughts about it and why you loved the movie so much.
this is why you have to check out older movies cause there is a good stuff to find
Sad to think that that darn cat is no longer here :(
i eenjoyed this a lot as a kid along with The Cat From outer Space.
Wow, forgot about this !
I didn't know there was a remake to this movie until you reviewed Doug. I have to thank my parents for showing me stuff like this, The Ugly Dachshund, Absent minded professor, and Blackbeards ghost (which I really hope is included in this month's reviews.)
I remember the music in this film sounding very Pink Panther-ish.
Critc, review soul
Thay are many Actors from "Blackbeard’s Ghost" in this! O_o Elsa Lancaster, Dean Jones etc. I loved that DisneyPirate Movie as a Kid and i probably watched ist like.....100 Times
How Abount, NC. That you review "Scoob!"?
Probably my favorite cat movie.
Omg John Mullaney looks so much like Dean Jones
aw yeah disney movie originals :P i remember seeing this and The shaggy dog and original flubber on disney channel back in the day.
I know you won’t do it. I’ve asked for years and nothing. But I’d really like to see your review of Going to the Mat. It’s not super great but it was one I really enjoyed when I was a teenager.
My family had a Siamese like DC while I was growing up. His name was Daboo. I miss that cat a little every day. Lived nearly 20 years!
DC needs some love!
Vaguely remember the 90's one existing but even then I had zero clue that was an actual remake!
As a kid I felt most of it boring. As an adult I find it a fun film. Do not expect kids are most with little kid like minds to enjoy what takes thinking or concentration.
i thought that psychotic robber looked familiar. its the riddler from batman
Dark toons Check out American dragon Episode homecoming It's still a the coaches I current to love could die
That darn cat was part of my childhood (the original)
You should have pointed out Frank Gorshin as one of the hoods
I'm a bit surprised Doug failed to mention the theme song by the Sherman brothers because it's so good, such a sweet and chilled jazzy piece that always gets stuck in my head whenever I think about it!
Fun fact: this was Dean Jones' first movie with Disney which lead him to star in The Love Bug years later.
@MegaMagicdog Yeah...at least he's enjoying his retirement.
@jbiehlable Don't think he ever will again now that Beetles are no longer made.
Herbie himself hasn't had a movie since 2005....when Lindsey Lohan was popular.
I love this movie
Riddle me this? Who is it that is outted by a Bat or a Cat?
Your review of the remake with Brad Jones came out when my cat Smokey died and I was going through her loss when you uploaded your collab review! It made my day better and now I got a new cat named Luna who is a boy!
The original "That Darn Cat!" is one of my favorite movies ever. I was just disgusted at how flat the remake fell.
Me too! Loved this film as a kid. And still do to this day. I should really check and see if my Disney+ has it in their catalog. Also speaking of old classics from the Disney library, The Great Locomotive Chase was a film that my parents said that I would watch all the time when visiting my grandparents. They had a HUGE VHS collection of old live action Disney films. Just wish that Disney+ had the film too. I haven’t seen it since I was 5 or 6 years old; so I’m not quite sure if it would hold up to this day. I’ve read some reviews that say that it’s kind of a mess. Regardless, I’d still love to check it out now as an adult.
I saw this when I was a kid and I can’t remember it so I should definitely look for it again
The burglar in This show was the same man who played riddler In the 1960s Batman tv series
I discovered this movie on Disney+ last year and I loved it.🥰 I couldn’t find a blu-ray for it but I now own it on DVD.
The remake was filmed near my hometown. The next county over from me in Edgefield, SC
Ironically...I didn't know there was a remake!
It's not Canoe.. its Keanu. 🙄
Old movies get a pass for dumb.
Kinda startling for me to seeing this movie recently reviewed as part of Disneycember because I got this movie on DVD for my mother and sister for Christmas last year, basically because we love cats. And yeah, at least that'll let us forget that there was ever a remake. But still, my sister doesn't know about the original Parent Trap movie that Hayley Mills was in.
😃If you ever see Google images of Young Hayley Mills when she is full on grinning- I kid you not...she looks like a young Kate Mckinnon!🤣
I love this movie. Watch Blackbeards Ghost . Its great also.
😎classic movie
I haven't seen this film since I was a little kid. Seeing this, review, I think I should rewatch it, maybe get a better appreciation for it🐱
Heh, I didn’t know there was a remake lol. At first I thought this was the movie with Jake, the Space Cat, if you remember that one
The Cat from Outer Space is an old favorite of mine. :D
Channel Awesome Can You Review The 2000 Coen Brothers Movie: O Brother Where Art Thou Starring: George Clooney John Turturro Tim Blake Nelson With: John Goodman And: Holly Hunter
Review The Owl House please!
Never heard of it
It’s a great movie 🍿
This cat had more emotion than the cg lions in Lion King 2019
Had this on VHS, still love the comedy of it. Now the next movie needs to be “The Cat From Outer Space”.
Day 1 of asking critic to do a review of overboard 2018
The Cat from Outerspace is what got me. I had that movie on vhs. I watched it almost as many times as I watched Enter the Dragon, The Big Boss, or Chinese Connection. The Big Boss was a horror movie to me as kid. Counting from backwards.1 The good guy loses. 2 His entire family dies in an elaborate scheme perpetrated evil foreigners. 3 People stabbing each other as a matter of course. That can't be fun for anyone
@superlive98 Yeah, I forgot about the chopped up frozen dead folks. That's up there with Texas Chainsaw Massacre except with probably a bigger body count.
The body parts frozen in blocks of ice were just meh by comparison.
Classic movie as well recommend the absent minded professor movies they are classics 👍
I watched this like 4 days ago couldn’t believe how good it looked an was acted for 1965
Fun to point out one of the crooks was played by Frank Gorshin aka the Riddler of the Batman tv show. He certainly had the comedy, they could have leaned into that
idk why but hearing Nostalgia Critic call Cinema Snob by his read name just hurt for some reason
I think a lot of people forget too this was NOT a Disney "original" story either. It was based on a novel, which is even better then the movie, Undercover Cat by Gordon and Mildred Gordon. This and The Cat From Outer Space where my 2 fave movies as a kid. I love the old Disney cat movies.
Remember Baby's Day Out?
You know I've noticed that this is the first year since 2015 that there's no theatrical Star Wars movie to close the year on. Doug's done the Holiday Special, Force Awakens, Rogue One, Last Jedi, Rise of Skywalker, I guess all that's left for a Star Wars clipless review is Solo, unless Channel Awesome decides to go crazy and cover the entire first season of The Mandalorian. Only this coming Wednesday will decide if we return to galaxy's far, far away...
Who plays the blonde robber? I swear he looks familiar.
It's so interesting how siamese cats were male in 60s movies.. they're so slinky and feminine as a breed, it's weird.
I didn't know that there was a remake. All I saw was the original.
I saw the original decades ago. Was there really a scene where the woman being held hostage Set Fire to the building she was in trying to escape her kidnappers? That's Balls to the walls intense especially for a Disney movie.
JOKE: What do you call a pile of cats?? A meeeeeoooooow-ntain. xD
