The Terminator is a 1984 American science fiction film directed by James Cameron. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, a cyborg assassin sent back in time from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), whose son will one day save mankind from extinction by a hostile Artifical Intelligence in a post-apocalyptic future. Michael Biehn plays Kyle Reese, a soldier sent back in time to protect Sarah. The screenplay is credited to Cameron and producer Gale Anne Hurd, while co-writer William Wisher Jr. received a credit for additional dialogue.

  • Why do people keep bashing this movie for it's '80s styles? It's not just made in 1984, it's a time travel movie that's SET in 1984. It clearly states so in the opening credits. I'm no fashion expert(!) but I hardly expect the characters in this film to wear whatever crap we're supposed to be wearing 2021!

  • One reason I think this aged pretty well is that, with stop motion, there is something actually there on set. You don't have to try and create every single detail, like you do with computer animation. I think that's why The Mummy/Returns aged so badly; I don't remember the graphics being so corny the first time I saw it, but they sure are now. Even though those movies are technically more advanced than this one, they aged worse because of the progress in computer graphics. I kind of wonder if the same ageing will affect Jackson's Lord of the Rings saga. I can even see through the graphics in the latest and greatest (like the facial recreation in Rogue One), because you just can't quite recreate reality with a computer. Hence, when technology improves, the older movies that relied too heavily on CG look a lot less convincing than those that used practical effects that maybe weren't as impressive at the time.

  • I've always wondered who John Connor's original father was. Even if Kyle Reese & The Terminator hadn't gone back through time to physically alter Sarah's life she still would've ended up pregnant with John. Due to Reese being infatuated with Sarah he inserted himself into John's narrative. So I'm just curious as to who was the original man that got Sarah pregnant? Was he a one-night stand, boyfriend or fiancé? We'll never know....

  • More and more you start to realize that "Nostalgia Critic" is 100% a victim to his name/brand. At first he had to get rid of the "Nostalgia" part of the reviews and started making videos about things that were just barely released, now he's "critiquing" things that are critically acclaimed and cult classics.

Even though it's dated, Brad Fiedel's score is one of my favorite scores in film. Also, I met Michael Biehn at a con in 2019, and he's actually a pretty cool guy. Though, what baffled me was that he told me that people hated it when it came out and he didn't know until years later that people loved it. Was that true? Plus, when Terminator punches Bill Paxton, he didn't just punch him, HE RIPPED HIS HEART OUT!!!!!!

  • Good review but why ruin it by mentioning the pooh pooh stinky Fury Road, when The Road Warrior is the great sequel...the great action sci-fi, independent 80s CLASSIC! Mad Max had The Road Warrior and Terminator had T2, that simple. Although I think TRW was a more sincerer sequel than T2 was, as TRW kept it's R rating with good reason. Plus, there is nothing wrong at all for being very 80s, if I want to travel back in time to 30s 50s whatever...something dated just might fit that bill! As well, dated FX don't bother me like the modern repetitive and uninspired cgi goo of modern offerings. Man, I was lucky enough to see Terminator in a theatre one afternoon with friends, then later that day we went to see the Judas Priest and Krokus show...it was all very, very, very Metal in those days! Just look at me, so damn 80s lol
