It was Garbage
I literally don't know how the insane, idiotic plot holes don't ruin the movie for you. It's painfully stupid.
@Dumpy Goodness Gal Godot reprised her role as Wonder Woman 👩 What if we got a Kardashian instead?
Good 👍
I actually liked it more than the first one, which was also a great movie.
i expected to see thor ragnarok and what I got is fingered
The movie fails to allow the audience to make any sustainable connection with the characters - it falls on its face which makes every "meaningful" emotion tugging scene work against the conflict of how creeped out you are that Gadot is enthralled to some random guy possessed with her dead boyfriend's soul. It is just wrong on so many levels and what is worse - she sleeps with this strange guy possessed by her dead boyfriend and they actually TRIED to make it romantic. A literal major WTF moment that it never recovers from. I mean, you can't take that back. Wonder Woman's moral compass completely out of whack which makes everything she tries to do make your brain say "coming from the heroine that just bedded some random guy possessed by her dead boyfriend" See the problem? Wonder Woman would NEVER EVER do that. Period.
Yours is the most forgiving review I have watched (15th so far) Summary is that the script is terminally flawed. And apparently Wonder Woman has NO problem now with destroying a man's life with a possessed dead boyfriend's soul and sleeps with him to boot. Wonder Woman would NEVER do that.
I liked this plot better in the never ending story 2.......... -_-
Coining Max Lord "This movie is good, but it could be better"
I think it's way too easy to hate on movies these days. Of course not everyone will like the same thing but I feel it didn't get the recognition it deserved as there was some real effort was put into this movie. Personally I enjoyed the first movie better but I thought there were some interesting concepts in this one as well. In Italy (and the rest of Europe I believe) it was made available just yesterday and I'm glad I refused to read or watch any review of the American audience. I love Wonder Woman and I think Gal Gadot really makes the character work, the only complain I have about 1984 is that there wasn't enough action. I seriously hope this isn't the last Wonder Woman movie we get
2017 was better, but it was nice to watch
Imo this movie compared to the 1st is what Superman 3 is compared to the 1st Superman movie.
If you hadn´t mention the toothpaste, i would never notice in the entered video. Thanks a lot.
Personally thought this movie was a terrible clusterfuck lol
Uhhhhh uhhhhh uhhhhh uhhhhhhhhhhhhh
So if someone wished to slam the planet Earth into it's Sun... This movie seriously is agonizingly terrible. I love Wonder Woman and the lore, but THIS movie is unbelievably AWFUL!
Can't wait for the Nostalgia Critic review of this...?
Especially when you realize that escalators would not of been new to him, nor would the metro and both existed in London where he was based during WW1
The movie was so goofy, I was expecting her to do the spinning wardrobe change.
I am a comic fan and know the characters; so it's 50/50 for me. What worked works really well, but when it doesn't quite work 🤔... I liked the beginning; even if Hunger Games and American Ninja Warrior had a baby. Um if you deleted the first half hour of the movie it doesn't add or take away from the overall story. Actually it looks like left over footage from the first movie. The part where she learns to fly is Buzz Lightyear and the original Christopher Revees Super Man blended. The fireworks scene is like Aladdin and dumb. The movie doesn't seem to have a real theme 😕 They want the Dark and grittyness of the first movie, but the campyness of the T.V. show or the Super Friends show. You can't do both. I agree with Doug that Cheata could've looked better and Christopher Pine's escalater scene is dumb. More context on the origin of the stone would've helped. It's orgins are not focused on enough. The battle armor was bad 👎 they didn't emphasize the importance of it enough, it felt more like Hawk Girl, than Wonder Woman and the wings hindered her fighting skills against Cheata. When she ditched the armor she kinda moped the floor up with Cheata, so I feel the armor was pointless anyway. She didn't really need it. Not enough Wonder Woman. Doug said she appears an hour twenty into the film. That's bad. It's a decent flick, but doesn't hold up to the original at all. Better than MOST DC movies overall though...
SILLY! ZANEY! WACKY! thanks a lot BVS critics. you done f it up
The story is too comic booky in the old sense of just being such a random story. And coming from the first that was more personal, it was unexpected. And the movie doesn't quite gel together, like doug implies when he says it needed another writing pass. Like that armor just appears in kingdom come, but you really expect it to tie more to the story here, in a film. But it's just random armor(or like in saint Seiya where it means something). I thought the invisible plane thing was fine because she's had time to practice ect.
I really like max and enjoyed this movie. But it is a bit weird
THANK you! I thought I was watching spider-man 3 for a minute and I thought Wig was like Electro and Pascal was like Sandman. I also asked if the first wonder woman was that cheesy because I honestly don't remember it being quite as bad as WW84. Also worse case of twilight running I have even seen since twilight 😂 but a great 1970s superman flying technique 🤣
Wait! Christmas? Doug you watched Wonder Woman 1984 for FREEEEEEEE?
It's great to get your view on this, Doug, because I had the opposite reaction to Pascal's character and storyline; it felt utterly cartoonish and stupid to me, to the point that it reminded me of bad '90s superheroes and ham-fisted acting (I mean, call me crazy, but the magic rock could've given him all he wanted with ONE WISH). Cheetah suffered being sidelined when many fans, myself included, would've loved to see her as the main antagonist and a sort of tragic yet self-made villain. Even worse, her whole pre-villain setup is the lazy, godawful schtick the writers pulled in The Amazing Spiderman 2 AND Iron Man 3, i.e. "let's make a hot actor/actress 'ugly' and a 'loser' by giving them frizzy/unkempt hair and glasses, ill-fitting clothes and making them SOCIALLY AWKWARD. It's so relatable!" Throw in the giving-food-to-a-homeless-person scene from Venom and you have the nauseatingly shallow 'character' we're supposed to find endearing before she breaks bad and has 2 minutes as Cheetah. All thanks to a magical wish stone and a man. Whoopee. I was so looking forward to this movie and it was such a letdown. Even the chemistry between Pine and Gadot's characters couldn't salvage this garbage.
I feel like they honestly should've cut Steve out of the movie. He added very little in terms of the plot itself, and his death didn't have that much of an impact on me because we're kinda told early on he needs to die His confusion with the modern day was amusing but nothing we really needed
One thing i would fix that would make several elements work is if she would use the armor to fight when she was depowered and uses it to fight cheetah and have cheetah turn earlier. Also cheetah isn’t this confused woman under a spell, she fights wonder woman to prove she’s better than her and eventually wants to kill her and kind of a smirky bitch. At least that’s how i see cheetah.
I thought there were some good individual scenes in the movie but overall it wasn’t very good. The scene where Steve and Diana said goodbye was really painful and Pedro Pascal was amazing. I thought some of the logic was weird tho.
on point man on point on what’s lacking and criticisms. it’s good but they couldn’t do it better tho :/
We don't have HBO max in the UK, but have to pay £16.99 for digital rent. I was gonna watch it, but after hearing all these reviews, I might not.
Me: *sees everyone hating on the movie* Me: “I’m not gonna waste my time to watch that movie, unlike you mortals”
I liked it...but it did feel a little bit long.
Wonder Woman 84, more like Superman 3.
"I like it but just barely" translates to "I want to like this movie but I really don't and can't completely admit it to myself yet".
I think its decent. Some thing are amazing and some are bad so it's ok. But its definitely not as bad as people are saying it is.
I liked it !
KGF 2
You never even covered the fact that Steve is on another guy's body and nobody in the movie cares
I love Chris Pine, but I hate the way they made him the whole “raison d’etre” for Wonder Woman. It’s been almost 70 years and she’s still pining for him? She should at least ha e a group of strong, interesting female friends. I wish they had made Kristen Wiig and Wonder Woman have a long-standing friendship at the beginning of the story. They should have been close colleagues but there could always have been some tension form Wonder Woman being , well, Wonder Woman! That would make Kristen Wiig’s character have more weight and depth and make her betrayal more devastating for Wonder Woman. Then, the film could have focused on what it means to be a strong woman. Is there an ideal woman? How do we set unrealistic expectations for ourselves? Perhaps they are setting up cheetah to be the bad guy in the last movie, which would be cool. No disrespect intended to any involved in the film. I just think there could have been a much more interesting story, here. I think Kristen Wiig was up to the challenge.
This seemed to me more like a live action adaptation of that Super Friends cartoon from the 70's or like the 60's campy live action Batman TV show. I mean the opening with young Diana on Themyscira was great and looked like we were going to get a movie as good as the first one. And the previews showed Cheetah as the main villain not some stupid conman using a monkey's paw rip off story we'd seen way to often. They most not have had as big a special effects budget cause some of that stuff looked ruff even cartoony. Like her lassoing a lightning bolt? And how they brought back Steve was so badly done. After the part on Themyscira turn off the movie cause you've watched the best part.
This Movie goes about women who hates men it is a bad example for the youth
1:04 for once he took the words right out of my mouth.
I must’ve missed the really really good stuff, because I fell asleep. I honestly can’t remember watching a worse movie.
the movie Cats had a better feline effect than Cheetah.
I love how Doug takes one this mess of movie's few bright spots, the fact that they didn't resort to a giant CG monster battle to end the movie, and highlights it as one of his main points of contention.
I'd say that the problem with this movie is the huge amount of holes. Nothing makes sense, so many things feel like cheating in this movie... the invisible plane that appears out of nothing, just because it existed in old series. And it brings nothing to the story. So many things are like that, or are left without explanations... Why the villain knew about the stone's powers when no one else knew? Why the golden armor is conveniently there when she need it when we have not seen it before? Why the villain asks such a stupid wish when he could ask all the wealth in the world? Why everyone understand the villain and wonder woman when not everyone speaks english in the end? Why no one asks for good wishes? Why Batman keep saying later that Wonder woman was hiding since the 20s when that huge shit in the entire world happened, with she running through malls openly? I could go on and on, nothing makes sense... This is one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen...
I genuinely enjoyed this movie throughout. I agree it’s a little long and messy in some areas, but I didn’t have a problem with that. I know so many compare it to Raimi or Richard Donner movies and I appreciate it the attempt even if not everything lands. I enjoyed the cheesy nature of it and I gave me feeing of the kind of movies from the 80’s and 90’s I watched as a kid. Even if “Wonder Woman” isn’t in the movie a lot, I had fun with Diana. It made for a more enjoyable watch than sitting through “Dark Knight Rises” where Batman isn’t in it for almost the entire movie and it’s so joyless where I just wanted something to happen.
43 seconds in Doug says i liked it..............looks for red laser dot on his head nope ......ckick
Such an amazing crossover!
WW#1 barely made the hit list, but WW1984 was a Supergirl 1984 reboot. I prefer Snyders version of Wonder Woman, strong, Goddess, warrior. Jenkins turned Wonder Woman into a "girl", sniveling, whining, preachy, soft, fragile and annoying as hell, and in this "Me Too".."BLM" era, there is no leading black/female cast members, not cool! THANKS PATTY JENKINS for ruining the Wonder Woman franchise for me forever. Wonder Woman lll, I think not, God please don't!
Maybe I just watched 'The Boys' too much, but this movie was horrifyingly cheesey for me... Granting wishes? Really? This plot belongs into a Saturday morning cartoon series. No! I got it! This movie was a direct copy of Bruce Almighty with Wonder Woman in it.... The plot is almost exactly the same... A loser guy gets godlike powers, exploits it until everything backfires at him and in the end he learns his lesson and undoes everything. It was horrible...
The one person who dies on screen in this TWO AND A HALF LONG EPIC dies due to a heart attack because of a wish... ...boo...
I think that Doug is going out of his way to be as generous with this review as possible, lest he be accused of sexism. Meanwhile, almost everyone else is focused on how (in addition to everything else wrong with this film), WONDER WOMAN RAAAAAPES SOMEONE.
The plot of this movie is the same as "The Amazing Spider-Man 2 if you think about it. 1) A nerdy character that transform into an evil villain and hates their hero (Cheetah = Electro) 2) A businessman who seeks power to save himself (Maxwell Lord with his Business= Harry Osborn/Green Goblin with his health) 3) A love story where the hero lost their loved one. (Trevor dies = Gwen Stacy Dies) 4) The hero wants to be with his loved ones (Wonder Woman wants to be with Trevor = Spider-Man wants to be with Gwen Stacy)
Movie blew. 😔
Was that a Digimon t-shirt with Taichi ?
So I was thinking about how to make WW84 a better movie. #1. Have Diana start a relationship with Barbara. They are already flirting at dinner, so carry that out. Then have Barbara loose her humanity after she wishes to become more like Diana. Then this starts to drive a wedge in their new relationship. Have Barbara cheat on Diana with Maxwell Lord. Have Diana and Barbara fight over that and over doing the right thing, to stop Lord, but have Diana struggle with fighting because is she powerless. Have Diana realize that Barbara is not herself and she wants to help get her Barbara back. Then have Barbara become Cheetah. Then in the final fight with Cheetah have Diana struggling with fighting because she really cares about Barbara, but make her believe that the only way for her to stop Cheetah is for her to kill the second person whom she has ever loved. After she defeats Cheetah have her carry the limp body out of the water and cry over loosing Barbara before she has to face Lord. Then in the end credits show Cheetah wake up and running away to have to face Diana in the future. #2. Actually have Diana loose her powers... None of theis halfway power loss. #3. Let her have already created or have her create the Invisible Jet in the opening scene. And she should be the one flying it, not a dead World War 1 pilot that has never seen a jet before. She had many years to learn how to fly and maybe the jet is not her first invisible plane. But, do not have her Superman fly. #4. Have Steve come back in his own body as Diana's wish, but after she has started her relationship with Barbara. Have her conflicted about her relationships. But, not wanting to give up Steve because she feels like she failed him. #5. Show there being consequences to the actions of the events of the movie. Since people have memories of the events otherwise people should not have any memory of the events. #6. Don't have Lord run off to find his son, instead have his son visit him in prison. #7. Move to opening scene to the end of the 2nd act, to where Diana has to make the decision to finally give up on having Steve. Have it show that she can't cheat to get something she wants. Because where it is currently in the beginning of the movie breaks it apart from the message it is needing to say. #8. Drop the idea of every guy being a Sexist Misogynistic Pig. A few spread out here and there is one thing, but every guy but Steve is a bit much. I might make additions to this later, but this is a start to how I would make a better Wonder Woman 84 movie.
Didn't wonder woman rape a dude when she add sex with "Steve" he was a ghost in a different person to that was not giving consent
Everyone should rent or buy this, don't believe the negativity.
You were working on Christmas? Dude! Take a break once in a while! Your fans love you but we can survive a night without you while you spend it with your loved ones
The whole thing about controlling some poor dude's body without his consent for Steve's 'return' is what makes me hate this movie. I don't care if it's light-hearted, it's fucking sickening and it's incredible that no one working on the film, despite all the money and time they had, never stopped and thought "Maybe this is fucked up and should change it". Piss off, movie.
Yyyyyeah, there was A LOT of mixed-in ideas on this that really could’ve worked in separate films, and most of the cheese I liked. However, this could’ve been so much better; there’s a middle ground that could’ve been our WW sequel, but for what I got, I still really appreciate it!🙌🏻
I feel like the script would almost be tighter if they took cheetah out altogether and the villain was just Maxwell Lord idk just my thoughts
you're right, cutie.
Overall, I thought this movie was okay. I wish there was some things that could have been explained more and that they would have switched the villains around since the trailer was more focusing more on Cheetah since she is one of Wonder Woman's biggest arch enemies. With a rewrite in some parts and cutting out some other parts, I think this movie would've been better if it just went through one more rewrite.
Pedro Pascal is actually a character who was a good guy but then was retconned as a villain and he hates Wonder Woman because she killed him but of course he came back.
The poor guy whos body they overtook, mistreated and raped. It's hard to see WW as a heroine after that.
amen to that like who thought that was in anyway a good idea, like this whole possesion thing is what ive nicknamed the magic roofie (ie the soul is passed out) just its messed up what was wrong with just having the wish bring him body and soul i mean it aint necromancy bringing the soul back into a body, its a goddam wish and since in other vids ive had people argue how its ok cause "he cant rember" (does this work in with actual r word with things like roofies) or "who cares who wouldnt wanna sleep with wonder women" and so on, and to this i say reverse the genders then come back
Steve is thrown into a man's body, Wonder Woman sleeps with him, then at the end you see the guy alive and well. If that was a woman's body that was used for sex the reactions would have been very different.
That actually creeped me out and ruined ALL of the goodwill justifiably earned from the first film - Woman Woman is ruined in this movie showing no moral compass, none - nothing. She went from treasuring human life to I don't care I got my man back even if it destroyed another man to do it and I am bedding him ASAP. Yeah this was a cringe movie.
But nah, it’s okay with men apparently, we don’t have the same amount of rights as them because we are seen as the big strong ones with muscles even though not every man is like that. It’s just as bad with ALL genders!
@Thorn (just to avoid confusion I meant that ironically lol)
@Thorn because she's a woman and therefore automatically right 100% of the time lol, even when she's wrong she's somehow still right, the TRUE superpower ALL women have haha
@Hummus is Life so two wrongs make a right? you realise your statment litterly makes you and the defenders hypocrites, like how the hell does fighting sexism or take your pick from the disgusting things this movie did, by doing the EXACT SAME THING just reversed make you in any way better.
I really enjoyed this film. Two things you mentioned that I find interesting 1. How the 2+hours+ running time felt like 2+hours but not for me. Not once did I look at the time. 2. How we don’t see Wonder Woman again until much later in the movie. I barely noticed that so it really didn’t bother me. I guess you can say I thought the pacing was just fine.
There's more web slinging in this movie than in a Spider-Man movie. The movie does have a moral though, Cheetah's never win. I'll show myself out.
The best thing is thet you cant say gadot
I actually really liked it. For me it didn’t fell like it was that long. The one thing though is I would have love for it to be all about the dream stone and saved cheetah for a different movie. But I was happy that I was it and saw the movie and impressed by it even with the goofy moments.
I agree cheetah should have been cut out. Instead replace her with OMACs, the robot soldiers maxwell lord used in the comics. That wouldve been better.
It was a fun enough ride but this movie had more holes than swiss cheese and (WARNING: PERSONAL OPINION INCOMING) the climax was just awful and made no sense.
I hate to be *that* person, but man Doug, I'm surprised you didn't notice and talk about the bad aspects of the _way_ Chris Pine came back. He inhabited another guys body the entire movie, then Wonder Woman knowingly had sex with him and they just ran all around creation with his body.......and the poor guy doesn't _remember_ any of it at the end of the movie......and everyone's just _okay_ with that. It's played off like it's a minor thing. That's a really big and messed up plot point to overlook. Especially since Wonder Woman knew this the whole time, and feminists are always fighting for this stuff not to happen to women in movies.......I love Wonder Woman, but sis is kind of a rapist now.
Wasnt even really 80s,,,but it was just the final bit of proof of how obsessed with and revolving around that decade that the 2010s were. Every thing repeats itself...I only hope the possibility of this 2020 decades doesnt repeat stuff from the 1970s...especially all the wars.
God Bless my Daughter who immediately asked me why WW and Steve raped that man. I don't see anybody on here having a problem with WW raping that man's body. No consent! How is it possible for this to happen and nobody is saying anything??? Show me a Woman with a spine to stand up to this horribly sexist movie. Nobody should need to ask you to do a role reversal in somebody else's shoes to show you how messed up you've become. "Misandry 2020" should be the name of this movie.
this tanked so bad ill expect Cheetah to get her own spinoff.
I'll be honest, the movie the trailers promised was the movie they gave us.
me and my cousins thought that mall sequence was a movie in a movie spoof.. we were shocked that it wasn't!! It was so goofy and campy, but not in a good way! I really felt let down by this movie!!
Suicide Squad is still the worst in the DCEU
Max Lord was a much better villain than Ares
WW84 suffers from sequalitis. They tried to stuff too much and ended up watering down Cheetah. A lot of the things they did fell flat. It wasn't a horrible movie, just not a great movie. It was okay.
I'm surprised no one in all of these reviews (Doug, Chris Stuckman, Angry Joe, etc.) is talking about how Wonder Woman's sword and shield (that she had in Justice League and her own movie prior) is NOWHERE in sight. Those things would have been pretty damn useful in the few scenes where she was actually fighting people, especially when fighting Cheetah. Plus, is no one going to talk about how Wonder Woman has blatantly stolen Hawk Girl's armor in this movie?
Sadly, this movie was not good at all. I wish it were. The 1st movie was far superior. This is not the Wonder Woman from the other DCEU movies. Patty Jenkins got rid of the Zack Snyder stunt and visual effect teams (Zack also didn't help out with the story), as well as screenwriter Allan Heinberg, from the first movie. cosmicbook.news/zack-snyder-removed-wonder-woman-1984-patty-jenkins UZworldr Grace Randolph gives us some insider information about the problems surrounding Wonder Woman 1984 - uzworld.info/player/video/mKfQsZB3fKzPgJ4 Wonder Woman is now a rapist - cosmicbook.news/gal-gadot-wonder-woman-rapist
Most glaring issue with the movie is first part with kid Diana. Yeah, cool shots, cool stuff, girl is decent... but it's just couple of disjointed pompous phrases, is adds absolutely nothing to movie.
If you know anything about rhe comics Maxwell Lord would of always been the main villain just that in this the seemingly fusged his powers etc with this Dreamstone...
You know a movie is bad when the finale is a rip off of the 'I believe in Santa Christ' scene .
He gave it an A+. There saved you time and money.
In the comics Max Lord is a former Justice League member with mind control powers, he spent years slowly learning jhow to take over Superman's mind and very nearly used to to kill the League, Wonder Woman stopped him by breaking his neck.
Something that i haven't seen talked about though is the fact that Wonderwoman raped a guy in this movie. I'm not kidding, i'm not exagerating. Spoilers obviously even though it's glossed over. Wonderwoman wishes for Steve back and he comes back.... in another man's body and the following night they sleep together. Except since Steve controls the body the dude inside has no control that's just insane. Oh, yeah he may not have memories but Diana sure does. Yeah i'm sure rape wasn't the intent but fuck you using your body against your will to have sex, that's rape pure and simple
It's so odd. Diana's character was the main thing I liked about the first movie. And in the second movie, I like pretty much everything but Diana's character.
She actually does learn how to fly though. You see it at the end when she's controlling her speed and altitude without her lasso. She initially uses her lasso to propel herself through the air, but then realized that she can ride the air instead.
Dumpster Fire of a Movie and i wish I had that stupid ass wishing stone to wish the memory of this movie away, Good God it was bad!!
25:45 "i feel like this should be a NC review" YES !
I have hated all of the DCEU so far... how is this movie good ? Wtf happened ?
Sadly, this film bored me. I truly liked the premise in that there wasn't a sky laser or an all powerful super villain but, it was tedious. The holes where numerous. When granting wishes the antagonist was only seen to be able to "take" something from a few of them. This means there were possibly millions of people out there with granted wishes that had personally lost nothing. Why would every one then rescind their wishes? Even if there had been a negative to the wish, would everyone notice it there and then to realise that handing it back would bring some form of benefit? WW didn't notice any change to her life, except the benefit from her wish, for quite a few days! If you had wished to be a millionaire, living on your own private island, would you still be sat in front of a TV to hear the drippy speech made by WW? Maybe there's more to it on a second viewing but, whereas the 3 part of the original WW film lost me, this one failed to find me at all. Edit: The special armour . . . It helped one person hold off an invading world but, a few minutes with an angry cheetah-woman and it is bent, battered and practically destroyed????
I liked it.
I had the same general impression, it's okay, but there are some real whoppers in there...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxwell_Lord
this movie is about lies and not wishes, jenkins uses wishes as a metaphor for lies and how lies build something that looks great but it's actually fake and empty while truth is complete and fulfilling, that's why Diana talks a lot about the truth pascal was insanely good barbara was great gadot was good the corniness and cheesiness is because its wonder woman in 1984 the invisible plane wasn't necessary but it may be fun service from the studio, i don't know the maya guy needed to be cut out overall it could be a little more "clear" but it's a fine movie
Honestly they pulled off the invisible jet better than I thought they would. I always thought that would have been insanely stupid if they put that in the movies.
I'm just gonna say Wonder woman the first major female superhero to have a blockbuster. Became an icon to people everywhere. Womderwoman 2. Character goes i wanna be like the feminist icon of the decade and then turns evil. Realizes she should revike her wish to be like wonderwoman (aka empowered) when notably yhe watershed moment of her wanting to be like wonder woman was when wonder woman had the physical strength to stop a rape and she didn't. Huh.
I actually quite liked the cartoony aspects of the move worked in the 80s setting. Felt like a Saturday morning cartoon.
