Zack Snyder's Justice League, often referred to as the "Snyder Cut," is the 2021 director's cut of the 2017 American superhero film Justice League. It presents Justice League-the fifth film of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and based on the DC Comics superhero team of the same name-as director Zack Snyder had intended it before he left the production. Like the theatrical release, Zack Snyder's Justice League follows the Justice League-Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and the Flash (Ezra Miller)-as they attempt to save the world from the catastrophic threat of Darkseid (Ray Porter), Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), and their army of Parademons.

    • I think taking out "everybody knows" was a boon. Sorry, but Leonard Cohen is my dad's favorite artist, I grew up listening to that stuff. Using it in that way felt reductive - the song is far more profound than the film. Opening with that song made the Whedon cut feel immediately pretentious and it took me two attempts before I made it through the opening scene.

Snyder is high on his own farts. god. it doesnt add anything. anything to the movie the plotholes are still REDICOULESS (like, why didnt the lanterns send the boxes away? THEY KNEW! I rather have a movie focusing ON THE STORY first... and STROKE SNYDERS EGO SECOND.. i can see why they cut it so much down. really. this guy is so high on his own farts (kina like in SouthPark: Snobalarm) its amazing. I watched the original a few times. I sat throug this mess of cutting back and forth (for FOUR HOURS!) and i cant see anything of value added or lost... anything! not a thing. All those praises are simply people patting themselves on the back "WE WON AGAINST HOLYWOOD!" instead of actually watching the movie. This might have worked out with SONIC, but sonic itself still had a fine storyline. it was just a visual thing that was off. Snyder does ADD AND ADD more visuals but does he address any idiotic decisions in this movie? No. not at all. • Still I prefered Wonder Woman's reluctance and her contradicting viewpoint on Superman in Joss version. It worked a way better on bringing a hero basically hiding for a century and breaking her holdup on Steve. Bruce calling her on her bullshit was a nice point. But overall yeah. I mean if Joss had 4 hours most plot point would also be explained with detail. And way less slow-mo

  • Man of Steel was great!! The fact that the alien invasion was about terraforming the planet made it unique and realistic, over other alien invasions where they just want to enslave and or destroy the world. Nope, a space faring species wants to terraform, but that's a realistic plot point. But to each their own.

We thought the intro was just black and white to be artistic and it would change in part one, but every time another part would play it we would be dissapointed to find it was still like that. Just as we thought thats how the movie was made we discovered that it was a different version of the movie lol.

  • I thought just about everything was improved, including Barry Allen. Yeah, he's still the "comic relief" character, but unlike the Whedon, not every god damn scene with him needed to end in a punchline. He's very jokey, sure, but most of the time it feels more organic. Like he's not just trying to tell jokes, that's just the way he is and it honestly works most of the time. Besides, props to the movie for showing a good deal of interaction between the team without overly indulgent dialogue, and especially for not using the "team fights with each other" scene that is in every superhero movie and unsurprisingly was in the theatrical cut. They can actually show a lot with very little, or sometimes no dialogue at all. One of my favorite new moments was a short exchange between Aquaman and Flash, where Aquaman shows empathy for Cyborg. So much time was spent in the previous movies showing these superheroes as flawed, egotistical, and petty, that it was incredibly satisfying to see all them being more... wholesome. They're still the same characters, but they feel more like people you'd look up to. Flash is inexperienced and nervous, but he's no coward and pulls his weight at every turn. Aquaman is confrontational because he's been alone for so long, but like Cyborg, he starts seeing the value of having friends. I could go on, but I really liked this depiction of the Justice League. Long story short, I can't believe this was written by the same guy who wrote Rise of Skywalker.

Danke!

That guy is actually incredible as a director and if he could make Aquaman good he can certainly elevate the obnoxiously pretentious snyderverse into something that can ACTUALLY COMPETE WITH THE MCU! And competition... results in BETTER MOVIES! In both cinematic universes!

  • I thought it was an amazing epic movie and improvement from the theatrical version of Justice League, better visuals, character development, motives, and moments (that final scene was spectacular, plus many other parts.) I felt the first hour dragged on IMO but once they introduced the Flash and Cyborg, I got more into it as it went on. Some other things that bothered me were the exclusions of a few of my favorite moments from the older version of JL, like Flash's introduction in the film were he drew on that guys face at the prison (I remember everyone in the theatre laughed when he said to Barry "will you hurry up!!!"), and when Flash said "did he just bail on us?!" when Cyborg few out of the sewers, the part about getting brunch, and towards the end when Flash and Superman had to save the villagers, Flash helped move a truck of people, and then Superman is seen carrying an entire building of people. Also Superman telling Batman "tell me, do you bleed?!" I guess some could agree that part could be cringy (it was still funny to hear a collective oooooooooo from everyone watching in the theatre.) Did they really need have that extended version of Wonder Woman's theme play EVERY time she was in an action scene? Also it was strange how they randomly made Mera have a British accent... But other than those little things, it was still a great watch, and I'm happy Zach Synder's vision got to be completed, hopefully the DCEU will continue this story arch along with these characters in the future.

  • So, can we assume that Marvel's success is based on a formula which is integrated into the director's vision of a superhero, movie or character? I'm wondering because the Snyder's cut shows a vision (or universe) which was a lot better than the formulaic JL we had in 2017 in which WB destroyed in order to get a huge profit of it. The Josstice Leage is a complete mess and a huge piece of shit that drowned the DCCU.

I can't deny that the Marvel movies are way better and successful nowadays but when I heard they were doing a Justice League movie I was excited. When I saw what we got in 2017 I was heartbroken. DC has some fantastic characters that have been crapped on. The Snyder cut felt correct and I'm not a huge fan of Snyder. I wish we could get more from this movie.

Tbh I’m COMMITTED with DC now, this movie made me feel I need to watch Aqua man,the Wonder women, and even a bit of Teen Titans and the Flash series. If you’re a long time DC person, this should be the movie that re-balances the popularity between DC and Marvel only it though Zac Snyder comes back to put the universe in fruition as a director/writer. There’s already more rumors for his comeback, HBO Max apparently wants to take this to full speed. Hopefully the rumors are true and the new momentum of DC makes the sequels happen.

  • While I granted the Wheadon cut a 6, the Snyder gets a 9 for the 1st half and an 8 for the 2nd. Why in the heck wasn't his version released as a 2 parter?

  • I thought the Snyder cut would do a better job, but not improve the complaints I had with the original movie. I still haven't watched the Snyder cut, but it kind of sounds like it would be above my expectations, though not by much. Did I want the Whedon version? No. But seeing Clark Kent have more heart, and seeing that translate through Superman... that's what I wanted. For as big as DC is, and for as "gods among mortals" as their heroes are, they've always had heart. And the most heart I've seen in the franchise is when, in the original Justice League, Superman and Cyborg are laughing out their pain. It wasn't witty, it wasn't dramatic, and it wasn't epic, but it was DC... and that's all I ever wanted from the DCEU. Batman being rough but not careless with his opponents and being an actual detective who acts based on what he believes will work and prepares for every scenario regardless of those beliefs. Wonder Woman was decent, but seeing her as a more grounded character would have been nice. The Flash... he needed to be quick, light, and witty; not nervous and grounded. Cyborg... I'm gonna be honest, I'd have gone with J'onn J'onzz (Martain Manhuntrer) or John Stewart (Green Lantern). But, if I had no other options, I'd give Cyborg some normal friends who like him as he is, let him act his age, and kick off the dark and broody stuff. I'd make him someone who doesn't go looking for bad guys, but who stops them when they're in front of him. If I needed the dark and broody alien powered teen, then I'd go Blue Beetle.

  • I think it was good, very long though. The only major gripe was the rendition of "Hallelujah" during the closing credits. The rendition itself was strange and the song itself didn't seem to fit the movie or its conclusion.

  • One thing was decidedly much worse for me in this version: they didn’t play the hype Wonder Woman theme at her first reveal. Otherwise some changes were a bit meh (for example I didn’t personally care for the epilogue or Martian manhunter cameo). But for someone who didn’t really anticipate this version or expect much of it, I must say it surprised me by being mostly better. Most changes were for the better on the whole part. Still think it was a bit long and agree it felt more like a miniseries with all the parts than a movie. A better movie? Yes, mostly IMO. A fantastic movie? I didn’t think so, but it was OK and had some hype moments, I don’t regret watching it. Most interesting thing about the whole project to me is still that it actually happened at all. Must feel like a win for Zach, Ray and many others involved in making it. I can respect that. Whether I liked the movie or not it certainly felt like it had more cohesion and focused vision than the 2017 cut.

  • Guys, you keep saying that you miss some dialogue or scene from the Whedon version in the Snyder Cut. Remember that Zack Snyder has never seen the 2017 theatrical version and he pledged that no footage filmed by Whedon would be included in his director cut.

    • @saturninhabitant And yet he admitted on Twitter that he ended up having to use a couple of Whedon shots.

      ElvenRaptorElvenRaptorOy oldin
    • @ElvenRaptor no, Zack Snyder never used any shot filmed by Joss Whedon in his Justice League cut. Every director has a record of what they filmed and Snyder could look fir the files that had his name. The only scene that Snyder filmed recently was the knightmare scene with the Joker.

      saturninhabitantsaturninhabitantOy oldin
    • Then he still ended up using some shots from it because he needed to.

  • The 2017 movie is NOT the original cut. The 2021 movie IS the original cut. It was never the intention to bring Joss Whedon and reshoot the film, but the WB executives were not happy with the underperformance of Batman V Superman and that's because that movie was also cut in time (Doug, you should watch Batman v Superman: Ultima Edition, is a great improvement with 31 min of extra footage), and they had cold feet about how Snyder treats the DC characters. Unfortunately, Autumn Snyder's suicide made Snyder retire from post-production and that's when WB took advantage of this sad situation and made Wheadon alter the Justice League plot by removing Darkseid and avoiding any possible sequels. You have to understand that Snyder shoots all of the footage that you see on HBO MAX in 2016, the only scene filmed recently was the nightmare with Jared Leto as the Joker. For me, the Snyder Cut is the original version and the one that should be canon. I want to see the other 2 planned sequels of Justice League because with a trilogy it all will make sense.
